Cerclage
Diagnostic & Treatment

Cerclage is an intervention that is applied when cervical incompetence occurs during pregnancy in order to prevent spontaneous abortion or premature birth. With this operation, the cervix is closed with strong stitches. The stitches are removed at the moment when there is no longer any risk of spontaneous abortion, and most often this is before childbirth.
Cerclage is usually performed on pregnant women with a history of one or more miscarriages. The risk of spontaneous abortion is greatest in the second trimester of pregnancy, so this is the period when cerclage is most often performed.
It is most comfortable to work in analgesia, although it can also be done in other forms of anesthesia.
After a short rest, the pregnant woman goes home with advice to rest for a few days.
