Curettage

Curettage is a procedure in which spoon-shaped instruments (curettes) are used to surgically remove the endometrium or the contents of the uterus.
Recently, depending on the indications, it is increasingly replaced by more modern methods (Hysteroscopy).
Curettage is also one of the pregnancy termination procedures that is increasingly being replaced lately by the safer vacuum aspiration.
Patients are under short-term general anesthesia, analgesia or local anesthesia during this procedure.
This procedure is used for different purposes: to diagnose tissue changes, to remove the remaining tissue after a miscarriage, to remove polyps and other growths, but also as one of the ways to terminate an early pregnancy. It is also used in the treatment of round uterine bleeding as a form of therapy.
