Polypectomy - Polyp
Diagnostic & Treatment

Polyps are the most common benign growths that occur on the mucous membranes of the uterus or cervix.
They develop from the endometrium of the uterus and the mucous membrane of the cervix.
Polyps can rarely contain premalignant changes, and sometimes malignant ones. That is why every polyp, after it is removed, must be sent for histopathological analysis. Polyps are often re-formed.
Polyps can cause increased bleeding that sometimes occurs cyclically before or after menstruation.
They are diagnosed visually under a speculum, vaginal ultrasound, hysteroscope, but also after revision for other reasons or biopsy.
Polypectomy is a procedure to remove polyps. There are several techniques for removing polyps. The method of polyp removal itself varies depending on where the polyp is located and how big the polyp is.
For endometrial polyps, the gold standard and safest method is hysteroscopy.
Cervical polyp - The very term polypectomy implies the removal of a polyp with a special instrument that twists and removes the polyp if it is visible or located in the cervical canal. Other methods used are electrocautery and LEEP procedure.
A polyp in the uterine cavity - endometrial polyp - is most often a benign change in the lining of the uterus caused by excessive growth of a part of the endometrium. It occurs in younger women as well as perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. At a younger age, it represents an obstacle to pregnancy, at an older age - bleeding and malignant alteration are possible. Hysteroscopically, the polyp is removed under direct visualization with an optical instrument using very small instruments that only remove the polyp by cutting the stalk.
Removal of polyps in the uterine cavity is best done by hysteroscopy - under visual control (camera), targeted removal of polyps is done without damaging the healthy endometrium. Read more about hysteroscopy by clicking on the link - HYSTEROSCOPY.
The material thus obtained is sent for HP verification (histological examination).
The intervention is performed under short-term general intravenous anesthesia, it is painless and the patient can go home after a short stay in the office.
